I have to admit i've been pretty bad about working out lately. Consistency is usually my strong suit but after having Ava (which I am sure many moms can relate) I just haven't been hitting the gym like I used to. Staying in shape is something that has always been a passion of mine and I'm on a mission to tone up and be more consistent about going now (especially since bikini season is just around the corner already!). Even with slacking on the amount of times I hit the gym I'm still at my pre pregnancy weight! I can only attribute that to the fact that I eat well the majority of the time. I truly believe that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is KEY to staying in shape and keeping the weight off. Learning to make healthy choices that you can enjoy and incorporate in your daily life is the goal! I know a lot of you have requested more Honeybee Health posts so I promise to do these more often!
Here are some random shots from my trusty photo food diary....
I usually opt for high fiber, low sugar cereal in the morning with unsweetned almond milk (and of course a coffee with creamer) but this morning I had 1egg 2 egg whites with peppered turkey, feta, spinach and tomatoes with a half of an ezekiel muffin (I also put a thin spread of manuka honey on the ezekiel).
I always order pretty healthy whenever we go out to eat (Ive been like this for forever and my husband actually hates this lol) Whole wheat bread with hummus, tuna, white beans and tomatoes from La Pain Quotidien. It comes with a pesto sauce but I had mine without.
Quick snack of kale salad from Whole Foods
A healthy dinner I fixed...Stuffed peppers with ground turkey, quinoa, ground flax seed, black beans and topped with fresh Parmesan. (This was my husbands portion. Mine looked the same minus the extra serving of quinoa). You can find my recipe HERE.
My husband isn't a huge fan of sushi so I have to get my fix when I can. This one is from Whole Foods. My go to picks are the Veggie and brown rice and a salmon, avocado and brown rice rolls. I steer clear of the ones with tempura (crunchy) flakes, eel sauce and ones with mayo.
Ordering at Chipotle...I went with the grilled chicken burrito bowl (theres not tortilla) I had mine with white rice, black beans, double lettuce, extra tomatoes and a scoop of guacamole. I opted out of the cheese and sour cream.
The husband orders his burger with meat, cheese, sauce and fries. Mine is a tuna burger with avocado, carrots and sprouts (hold the aoili...another fancy word for mayonnaise) I skipped the fries and had a glass of bubbly instead! (that's my calorie preference ;) I also had sprinkles cupcakes later that day! Its all about a balance right?! ;)
I wish I could say I was one of those girls that can eat everything and not gain a pound. The truth is it takes work and I really make an effort to make healthy choices. If you're not used to eating this way it can be a bit of work in the beginning but I promise it will eventually become like second nature and you'll enjoy it! Here's to getting and staying healthy in 2013 loves!

That food looks delicious. Eating beautiful things makes it easier to be healthy.
ReplyDeleteLove your approach to healthy eating/living. It really is all about balance! I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant and already looking forward to getting back into shape post-babe. xo!
ReplyDeleteYou've mentioned a couple of times that you will do at home workouts when you can't make it to the gym. Could you do a post on which workouts you do? Do you use fitness DVDs or magazine workouts or do you just make up your own? Love the Honeybee health posts! Keep them coming.
ReplyDeleteHi love thanks so much! I used to do a lot of at home workouts in the first 6 mths my daughter was born. I would do my own moves (squats, lunges, arms, and abs) but luckily now I am able to go to the gym a bit more.
Deletethis is a great post to remind me to kickstart my diet! xo

ReplyDeleteUhg, I'm right there with you in 'slackerville' when it comes to working out...was just saying the same thing about bikini season. I went on a run yesterday and did a couple quick circuits and am feeeeeeling it today! ;) Totally agree about eating well to maintain the bod...I once heard it's 60% of what you put in your mouth and 40% exercise...which has always stuck with me! xo
ReplyDeleteglad im not the only one slacking a little ;)

Deleteand congrats to you! 20lbs?! thats amazing love!
DeleteI love your Honeybee Health posts! They are truly inspirational and remind me to stay on track for2013! I like that what you eat seems to be healthfully modified versions of real food - which is great because I feel like the bulk of my bad eating happens when I am eating out

thank you Laura! Eating out can definitely be tricky and tempting with all the amazing food. I know my hubby has the hardest time ordering healthy while out so I try to him on track when I cook at home ;)
DeleteThis is great Andee, thank you :) I need these tips hardcore right now, as I'm trying to lose about 10 lbs! It's harder for those pounds to come off now that I'm almost thirty! I didn't even have to try just a few short years ago. Thanks again for the inspiration.

Deletei was wondering how many calories you consume per day. I know when you were pregnant you posted that you had 150-300 more a day. So how many on average do you think you consume per day when not pregnant? i too am pregnant and 5'4'' and started at 114 lbs, im trying to eat more and balanced. I am now 13 weeks along. Im just trying to get a good goal for myself through out this pregnancy of how many calories to consume because i never counted before. Thank ya for the tips! i work out 5-6 days a week, 50 mins of cardio, and two of those days i take off cardio to do weight training for 45 mins. (:
ReplyDeleteHi Tessa Before pregnancy I would aim for around 1800 calories a day now I have a little bit more bc I'm still breastfeeding. Congrats to you on your pregnancy! Try not to stress so much about the calories just listen to your body and indulge in moderation! Enjoy this time love xoxo
DeleteTHanks Andee! Im doing my best to let my body do what its supposed to do. I think like Jennifer Stanos I gained more weight in my first trimester than the averages they give you in the books. I was on the borderline for underweight with my BMI but i think because i had a lot of muscle and not a lot of body fat when i got pregnant, my body needed to gain weight/fat quickly to carry the baby. So now that i have put on 6 lbs already, at 13 wks 3 days pregnant, im trying to make sure it slows down now that i have healhty fat on me. I know it can be really hard on your body to put on too much weight too quickly and cause so many complications in pregnancy. So its nice to hear that you started around 1800 calories a day (im guessing thats probably around what ive been eating for the past few yrs give or take a few) and then up'd it probably 300 in 2nd and 3rd trimester like books and doctors recommend. My body was alwasy hungry in the first trimester so i think i up'd it right away unintentionally and that is probably the culprit for the weight gain. But im happy my baby is healthy and im continuing to stay fit and do my exerecises in moderation. (: Thank you for the tips on healthy eating and i love your general grocery list you posted a while back!
DeleteAndee - can you post some of your breville juicer recipes (or just how much of each thing you generally put in)??? I'm due with baby #1 any day now and just got a juicer!!! Thought it'd be great to load up on some veggies while breastfeeding!
ReplyDeletethanks for the request love! I actually plan on sharing some of my favorite make at home juice recipes soon!! xoo
DeleteHi-
ReplyDeleteWhat are your thoughts on alcohol when trying to lose weight? I am not a big drinker but when I do drink I tend to drink too much:/ Any lower calorie drink suggestions? i would love to know what workouts you do at home as well. Thanks!
As far as losing weight I would cut out alcohol all together as it doesnt help. If you really want a drink still to a glass of wine or champagne which will only cost you around 150 calories.
DeleteGreat post! I love your healthy recipes (your meatloaf is a staple in our kitchen now!) and tips and trick for healthy eating. I also eat "clean" and don't find it hard to stick to it anymore and it makes me feel so much better overall. I also have 1 cheat meal a week though where I have a few glasses of wine and eat dessert etc ;) Thanks for another great post and please keep it up! :)
ReplyDeletethanks so much hun! Glad you like these posts ;) and of course you have to indulge as well! I have to have my vino and sweets too!

DeleteAs of recently I have been working towards a healthy lifestyle & a fit toned body! You are sooo good about what you eat! My babe hates sushi as well so when I do get it I can't say no to the fried rolls...oops!(;
ReplyDeletewww.MaybeBabyXo.com
LOL! I have the same summer baby monitor! I LOVE it! One of the best I've tried. I had one before that, but it stopped working..No bueno. All that food looks amazing. I vow to eat better this year. :)
ReplyDeleteI used to read your food blogging (as well as fashion) and really wish I could be as disciplined as you. And now I wish I did start following your suggestions sooner. But this past year with all the work I been flogged with, lack of time, and eating less healthy than I normally do, I noticed such a negative change!... I get bloated, cellulite, and gaining weight on the mid section. I'm still trying to figure how to change my diet and what is wrong with me. I hate it... Doctor said it's probably IBS. But really, it comes from something! I really think the food we have here is so processed and full of artificial junk it's so hard to make a meal without spending hours on it... Or even buying something out of home and having it pre-made before they even make it for you!
ReplyDeleteI think I'll take your suggestions one at a time and hopefully it will become habit and these symptoms will get better :-(
Your blog is one of my favourites; as blogging is about sharing a "diary" of some sort and and you really share beautiful things for your readers. Hopefully I won't disappear for too long this time, cos I missed out on so much!
Thank You Andee Layne!
